Crackback Book Review
By: John Coy
Reviewed by Javier G.

This book is about a kid that likes football.  His name is Miles Manning.  He was a defensive back in his football team.  He liked this girl named Lucia.  After something happened in the story, everything started to change in his life.  For example he isn’t a starter on his team and he has been a starter for a while now.  I don’t want to say what happened because that would kill the story if you wanted to read it.
I would consider this a good book.  I would consider this a good book because what happened to this person (Miles Manning), it can happen in real life even though this book is fiction.  For example he liked a girl and can’t talk to her because he isn’t good around girls and some people that I know are like that, including me.  This is why I consider this a good book.
The strengths of this book were that it was really descriptive and had a lot of things that like people can relate to.  The weaknesses of this book are that it is about football and it hardly talks about it (football).  This book is mostly about Miles Manning’s life; not football.  That is the weakness of this book, but the rest of it is really good.
I would recommend this book to students or to anybody else because it is a good book.  I would recommend this book because some people, like I said before, can relate to the story or have something kind of the same in their life that happened or that it is happening right now.  So this is why I recommend this book so that people can read it

Why Is Life So Har
By Anonymous

Sixteen
Hit hard by life
Six months
What will I do?
Came to me so fast
The ones I love fade away
No turning back
I’m going to be a father
Really hard to think about
At this age
Stress
The most common thing to do
But I’m not letting stress
Overcome me
So much in my mind
It isn’t going to be easy
People trying to make my decisions
Staying shut isn’t going to be one of my choices
Life turned up side down
Now all I got to think about
Is me
My girl
And my son

Lost in War
By James A.
Shots
Soldiers
Guns
Lives extinguished
Shells
Bullets piercing flesh
Grown men cry
Mothers
Wondering if their kids
Are OK
Lost in war
Lives lost
Oil
Money
Fake bomb threats
My cousin
Lost in war
As they say
It's just another
Body
Not to us

Every life,
Every spirit
Shouldn’t be wasted or thrown away
Like trash
It is a gift
A gift from God
Something we should share together
God loves us in every way
No one should say life isn’t worth living
When that is what makes us who we are
We are worth living
We should love just as God did
He believed that dying was worth doing
He made us see things
We wouldn’t see if He didn’t
God is our father
Something we should be proud of
Very proud, because he died for us
God makes us have these days of happy, sad and lonely
But when we are lonely let God in our heart
Really we aren’t alone because He is there for us
So is life
Just throwing it away is not looking at what He did
There is a reason for everything
Those reasons God knows
We shouldn’t give up
We don’t know the reasons
Just remember God knows
And life is worth living!!!
NEVER FORGET GOD IS IN EVERY STEP WE TAKE
EVERY BREATH
IN EVERYWAY

No Family
By Emilio A.
I stay
House to house
Place to place
When can I stay in one house?
When can I stay in one place?
Why do I have to keep moving?
I pray to God all the time
Please God, give me a chance
To find a person who can help
God, that's all I ask

Untitled
I was 12 when my house burned down
Ashes floating hear siren sounds
Smoke detectors going off
Clouds in the sky an' night falls
No brothers, no sisters, no mom or dad
Splinters in my foot walking through without a gasp
Nails through my feet, dust on my face
Walking the streets, silence is what I face
Now I sleep in the alley all alone
See crooks an' cops, feels like a twilight zone
Singing for money without a choice
I can help you I hear a yelp from someone's voice
A guy with a white suit with feathers falling down
A smile replaced his frown upside down
Got me on track
Now I ain't looking back
Twin Towers dropped
My heart just stopped
A man carried me to safety
At the station safe like heaven
My day in NY before and after
9/11

real talk
By James A.

I utilize my mind
I use my words
To build knowledge
Education
Is a power?
We must not only fight
But too
Strive
For what you believe in
Only you can control your destiny
So take hold of the steering wheel
And drive safely
If you have something better than the other person
They gonna try to bring you down
That’s their mission in life
But one thing you can do
Rise above the occasion
Which will only make you stronger
Life
Can be crazy if you make it
So be careful what you do
What you say
Can be the last thing you say in your lifetime
Take control of your life
You only have one life to live
Do it right the first time
Like if it was your last time
